3D Scanning a Handbag for Fendi

Embarking on a project that seamlessly blends high fashion with cutting-edge technology, MYND Workshop was commissioned by the iconic brand Fendi to 3D scan a handbag for an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience for visitors to their NYC Flagship store. The focal point of this digital innovation was a meticulously crafted Fendi handbag, which was to be digitally replicated and featured in the AR application.

Utilizing the precision of photogrammetry, MYND Workshop undertook the task of scanning the handbag, capturing its every detail to ensure the digital twin mirrored the original's aesthetic and craftsmanship. This process involved taking numerous high-resolution photographs from various angles to construct a comprehensive 3D model of the handbag.

To ensure the digital asset's performance within the mobile AR app, MYND Workshop employed advanced techniques in mesh retopology and UV mapping. This optimization process was crucial, as it reduced the complexity of the 3D model without compromising the intricacy of its design, making it perfectly suited for real-time rendering in the AR environment.

The final deliverable included PBR (Physically Based Rendering) texturing, which added a layer of realism to the digital handbag by accurately simulating how light interacts with its materials. This attention to detail ensured that the AR experience was not only engaging but also provided a lifelike representation of the handbag's textures and colors.
