Filmset Scanning for Lisey’s Story by Apple TV
For the adaptation of Stephen King’s "Lisey’s Story" for Apple TV, MYND Workshop was tasked with digitizing several intricate sets located at Steiner Studios, nestled in the heart of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Recognizing the need for precision and detail, we employed a synergistic approach, integrating both LiDAR and Photogrammetry techniques to capture the essence and complexity of each set.
Our LiDAR technology provided the structural backbone, capturing the spatial dimensions and architecture with pinpoint accuracy. Photogrammetry added the layer of realism, meticulously documenting textures, colors, and the nuanced interplay of light and shadow that define the atmospheric tone of Stephen King's narrative world.
The culmination of this process was the creation of a series of 3D textured meshes, or Digital Twins, which served as exact replicas of the physical sets. These digital assets were seamlessly integrated into the post-production workflow, where they were match-moved to live-action footage. This meticulous alignment allowed for the virtual and real elements to coalesce flawlessly, providing background plates that enhanced the storytelling with their realism and depth, all while maintaining the eerie ambiance characteristic of King's work.
This project underscored the pivotal role of advanced 3D scanning in modern filmmaking, enabling environment artists to extend the boundaries of creative expression and narrative immersion. MYND Workshop’s expertise not only facilitated a streamlined post-production process but also enriched the visual narrative of "Lisey’s Story," bringing Stephen King's vision to life with unprecedented fidelity.
