3D Scanning Liberty Plaza at WTC 9/11 Memorial

MYND Workshop undertook the delicate task of scanning Liberty Plaza and the 9/11 Memorial, situated at the heart of the World Trade Center's Ground Zero site, for a unique and undisclosed special project. The assignment demanded not only technical precision but also a deep sensitivity towards the location's historical and emotional significance. Given the site's secure nature and its profound importance, obtaining the necessary permissions from various authorities and security agencies was a complex process, requiring detailed planning and clear communication to ensure all equipment, including our advanced laser scanning tools, passed through stringent security checks.

To accommodate the unique challenges posed by the site, including the need to navigate through the plaza and fountains area amidst the presence of visitors, MYND Workshop engineered a custom solution. A specially designed rolling cart was constructed to securely house all necessary tools along with the scanner, allowing for efficient and unobtrusive movement throughout the site. This innovation enabled the team to commence work at the break of dawn, continuing throughout the day to meticulously capture the entire plaza using just a single scanner.
